This is the bridge from learning to read toward reading to learn. Keep a clear book spine, then use projects and practice tools to make the ideas stick.
Decide whether the family is simply using OBE exemplars or pursuing Level A/B certification through an Accredited Agency. That changes record-keeping and assessment.

Map four core strands
Keep a weekly view of language, maths, environmental studies/science and social understanding. Add computing as a project, not a daily obligation.

Finish with an artefact
End each unit with a letter, labelled model, measurement record, interview, field note or short presentation rather than another quiz.

Fluent paragraph reading, multiplication/division meaning, measurement and close observation.
Core shelf
Use current NCERT Class 3 books, or the OBE Level A exemplar set if that is the chosen pathway.
Add only if useful
StoryWeaver at the child's reading level, Khan India maths for one identified gap and a weekly local-environment notebook.
Keep as evidence
For an OBE route, ask the Accredited Agency what it needs before designing the portfolio.
NIOS OBE books at this stage are Level A and B exemplars
Level A is the Class 3 endpoint; Level B is the Class 5 endpoint.
NIOS does not publish a separate OBE textbook series for Classes 3, 4 and 5. The 2026–27 prospectus calls the public files sample/exemplar SLM and allows Accredited Agencies to use NIOS, NCERT or State/UT books against the NIOS curriculum. Ask the certifying agency which books it uses and what they cost: NIOS processing charges explicitly exclude study-material prices.
Government and board material comes first. Supplements follow only where
they add practice, reading, experiments or creative work the core shelf does not provide.

Choose the next terminal level from a real reading, writing and maths sample, then ask the Accredited Agency how it sequences the exemplar lessons.
After each lesson, keep one dated output—an oral retell, worked page, drawing or practical note—in a simple portfolio.
