Shibumi is an alternate school serving families in India. A non-graded Krishnamurti-inspired centre south of Bengaluru, founded in 2008, where children are grouped by stage rather than class and admission depends on the parents joining an adult enquiry programme. It teaches the Cambridge IGCSE · A Level (as private candidates) curriculum across ages 6–19, with accreditation or pathway listed as None. The school holds no Indian board affiliation; students sit Cambridge examinations as private candidates..
The commitment bar is unusually high and it falls on the parents: twelve to fifteen dialogue sessions before a child is considered, and continued participation in the adult enquiry work while the child is enrolled. That is a filter on the parents philosophical alignment, not on the child. Shibumi holds no Indian board affiliation at all — students register privately for Cambridge exams — and publishes no enrolment figure, no staff ratio and no email or phone, routing everything through web forms. The fee is renegotiated annually. Directory sites carry an older in-city address, an unverified Gmail contact and, in one case, a false CBSE label; none of it matched the pages of the school itself. Aggregate scores of 4.6 to 4.8 circulate on Justdial and via Google, but neither could be read at source, so we publish no rating. The fullest independent account is not a parent one: a visitor who spent a week at the school in 2016 praised the quality of attention among six-year-olds but doubted the ideals could hold against the pressures of mass media and materialism.
