Isha Home School is an alternate school serving families in India. Two things a family should weigh before applying. First, the practicalities: the school publishes no fees anywhere on its own site, entry exists only at Class 2, 5, 8 and 11 so there is no route in at other year-points, and children board from about age 7 on a day that starts around 5:00 AM and ends at 8:30 PM or later. The school states that its faculty includes many who "have come as volunteers", and it publishes no figure for how many teachers are full-time salaried staff. Second, the setting: the school sits inside the Ishana Vihar premises adjacent to the Isha Yoga Center, and that complex has been the subject of long-running litigation. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board issued a show-cause notice in 2021 over construction in the Velliangiri hills between 2006 and 2014 without environmental clearance; the Madras High Court quashed it and in February 2025 the Supreme Court rejected the Board’s appeal, shielding the site from sealing or demolition while expressly cautioning that any future expansion needs prior permission and that the ruling "should not be treated as a precedent for regularising illegal constructions". The News Minute reported in July 2026 that the courts’ reasoning leaned on clarifications from the union environment ministry, at least one of which was prompted by a request from an Isha Foundation representative. The campus adjoins the Bolampatty Reserve Forest, an elephant habitat. On reviews, the base is thin: Edustoke’s 4.6 rests on 49 star votes with no written text on an unclaimed page last updated December 2024, iCBSE’s 3.9 rests on four ratings, and no Google rating could be read at source. The only substantive first-person public account we found is a single anonymous two-star review from January 2022 by someone describing themselves as a twelve-year resident, alleging high fees against volunteer teaching and inadequate food — one unverified account, which we report rather than hide, and which no independent reporting we could find corroborates.
